CURRENT JOYS: SUMMER FAVES

Fantasydub

Some of you may know this, some of you may not, but my partner in life is a very talented musician. His latest project, Fantasydub, is a groovy fusion of styles that cross time and space, and IMO makes for the perfect summer soundtrack. Fantasydub features guest vocalists from various corners of the world, singing on top of layered and extremely danceable music by my beloved, Luke Top. My forever favorite is L’Heritage Universal featuring Malian musical legend, Baba Salah. And if you’re an Emily in Paris fan, keep your ears open for a Fantasydub track in the upcoming season!

Schmatta Substack + GIVEAWAY

As a Taurus, I’m a bit of an interior design junkie, so I was delighted to discover the witty, creative and well-edited substack, Schmatta, written by Leo Epstein. I love Leo’s point of view - she looks at design through such a creative lens, always with a touch of humor and whimsy. My recent faves include a dELiA*s inspired round-up and a guide to small space living à la Polly Pocket. I teamed up with Schmatta for a fun Summer giveaway where you can win one of our Amira Necklaces ~ head over to their most recent substack post for deets on how to enter!

Skirball Cultural Center

LA friends, this one’s for you! I recently spent a glorious summer Sunday with my sister and nephew at the Skirball Cultural Center, perched above the lush Sepulveda Pass on the 405 freeway. We were on a mission to see the Maurice Sendak exhibition, an expansive survey of the famed Where the Wild Things Are author’s work, which was really well done. An absolute highlight for me was seeing Frank Stella’s 1984 print series Had Gadya, an abstract interpretation of the song that is traditionally sung at the end of the Passover Seder. In typical Stella fashion, the color combinations are innovative and fantastic. Yinka Shonibare, a favorite of mine since I first saw his vibrant, textile heavy works in art school, also has a spectacular piece on display. American Library is an immersive installation featuring hundreds of books covered in a kaleidoscopic mix of Dutch wax print fabrics, the spines of which feature the names of US immigrants and Black Americans affected by the Great Migration. Truly a sight to behold. All three exhibitions are on view through September 1, 2024.

Ilana Kohn PRISM Cupro Print

In the summertime I am all about pared-down dressing. That’s where Ilana Kohn’s easy breezy cool gal pieces come in! I’ve been obsessing over everything she made in the Prism Cupro print for SS24 and have been debating between the Rizel Dress and Yoshi Pant/Jupie Shirt combo. This joyful print reminds me of vintage kimono and 60s psychedelic florals. Too GOOD!!! Bonus, everything is designed and made in NYC.
