Earth Day Special - Pollinator Patches!
In honor of Earth Day I wanted to share some info about one of my more recent passions - protecting pollinators! I definitely find myself feeling overwhelmed at times with the state of the world, but I’m reminded that there small things that we can all do to help. What I’ve been focused on lately is dedicating a space in my garden to native plants (I call it my pollinator patch!). I’ve learned through various sources that planting species native to your area is an excellent way to help sustain and nourish the ecosystem. And planting a garden is also an excellent way to nourish your soul! Here are some of my favorite resources that I use to learn about native planting:
Audubon Society has developed an amazing database where you enter your zip code and it gives you a list of native plant species that will attract and sustain pollinators in your area. I use this whenever I am doing a garden refresh so I’m sure to have plants that provide food and shelter for my neighborhood critters.
The Xerces Society, which is an organization that is dedicated to protecting pollinators, also has an extensive resource center that can help you learn what you can do in your location to conserve and restore habitat. You can also learn more about who the pollinators are - and you might be surprised by what you find out!
